FWC January Update 20221/13/2022 Greetings FWC Members!
I hope 2022 is off to a great start for you all. I’m excited about the upcoming sailing season, and I think we have some good events shaping up. I hope you are ready as well – the first one is only a little over a month away! More below on this, but first… What’s New? Thank you to all who voted in our most recent election. We have the Rules and Bylaws updated accordingly, and I have attached a link to them below for you to access when and if needed. They will be also updated online. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BTQNo_YgFl4INhsQQP0twep0h3Uo54rmjJ18RwmXvmw/edit?usp=sharing Speaking of online.. One of the pieces of feedback we have received is for the FWC to have a dedicated website – something additional to Facebook for any non-social media users. I am happy to share that we have heard you, and are very proud to unveil www.formulawaveclass.com This is our official website, and we will continue to add updates, new photos, regatta recaps, and other content. Feel free to check it out now and check back periodically to see what is new or has been updated! We hope this serves as a good online home and resource for all things FWC! Schedule There are a few things in flux with our schedule, so I don’t have a final one to give to you quite yet, but I do want to draw some attention to our first regatta of 2022, the Southwest Regional. Sailed in sunny San Diego, this regatta is starting to attract some great competition! So far, 9 sailors have registered, and we are anticipating this regatta should have a 15-20 boat fleet by the time all is said and done. If you are looking for a way to warm up from the cold, or maybe just find something fun to do, consider sailing at the Southwest Regional, February 25-27. https://www.regattanetwork.com/event/23555#_home Other upcoming regattas to note: Mid-South Regional, Shreveport LA – April 22-24 Midwest Regional, Yankton SD – June 24-26 North Coast Regional, Put-in-Bay OH – August 5-7 HCANA Wave North American Championship, Shreveport LA – October 12-16** https://www.regattanetwork.com/event/23800 FWC Championship, Gulfport, FL – November 17-20 **The HCANA Wave North American Championship is a Hobie Class event, and not associated with the FWC. Participants at this regatta must be members of the HCANA and sail an HCA Compliant boat. We had previously sent that the East Coast regional in Charleston would be taking place the same weekend as the Mid-South event. This event is a little in flux at the moment, and we will update you on the status of it as we know more. We are working on the possibility of a Regional regatta taking place in Fort Walton Beach, July 8-10, as part of the Meigs Regatta that is held there. If all falls into place, the FWC will have its own start and race course at this event, and will count for season points. We are also looking at a couple locations who may hold “Wave Friendly” regattas, that would not be FWC regionals, but events our sailors could consider going to race at that should offer a strong wave fleet and sail under FWC rules. Stay tuned for more, and watch the website and facebook for FINAL schedule announcements. Membership It’s that time of year to renew your FWC Membership! If you haven’t already, please contact Wendy ([email protected]) to complete your membership. We also have a button on our website that links out to PayPal and you can complete your membership that way too. Thank you all for sailing with and supporting the FWC, and I hope to see you at a regatta sometime this year!! Ben Wells President - FWC
