FWC Update - February 20222/18/2022 Greetings FWC Sailors!
Our first two regattas of the sailing season are only weeks away. There is still time to register if you want to race! See more in our schedule below, along with other updates! What’s new? As announced in the last message, we have launched a formal website (https://www.formulawaveclass.com). We understand that many of you don’t use social media, so hopefully this acts as a resource for you to review the schedule or see other information. I want to point out a couple of areas I would encourage you to check out. First, on the website, there is a section called News. This is a section to visit periodically, as updates will be posted there, along with these monthly newsletters. Second, there is a section called the FWC Forum. This links out to a separate site, but it is a forum where anyone can create a post or start a discussion on any given topic. The forum is meant to be driven by you! When you go to the forum, you will see a button in the upper right-hand part of the screen that says “Register”. All you need is your email address, and it takes a couple of minutes to set up the account for the forum. Once you have an account – have fun! Start a discussion. Ask a question. Feel free to use it and post to it. If you have any trouble getting set up in the forum, please contact the FWC email and we will help you as much as able. For those of you hosting/running regattas – We would love a regatta recap from you to post to the News section of the website so folks can read up on how things went. Please keep that in mind, and if you want help writing it, let us know! We also have an exciting update on our sustainability efforts from the Corpus Christi regatta. With our partnership with Sailors for the Sea, our goal was to achieve a GOLD level certification, which we had done. One of the yacht club members completed a very nice sustainability report and submitted it just so they could have an official record of what we did. After review, Sailors for the Sea adjusted our rating to PLATINUM – the highest sustainability rating possible. This is a tremendous achievement we are very proud of, and it proves that any regatta can be sustainable and environmentally friendly with just a little effort. Schedule Southwest Regional - San Diego, CA February 25-27, 2022 Ten sailors registered so far. Plenty of room for anyone else who wants to join. You are guaranteed to have a great time sailing with the crew in San Diego! Deep South Regional - Clermont, FL March 4-6, 2022 This will be held with the Clermont Catcall regatta. The FWC fleet is shaping up nicely, and Florida is always a nice getaway from the cold states up north! Mid-South Regional - Shreveport, LA April 22-24, 2022 Midwest Regional - Yankton, SD June 24-26, 2022 Emerald Coast Regional - Fort Walton Beach, FL July 8-10, 2022 North Coast Regional - Put-in-Bay, OH August 5-7, 2022 HCANA Wave North American Championship October 12-16, 2022 **This is not an FWC Regatta. Pensacola Yacht Club Regatta - Pensacola, FL October 28-30, 2022 **This is not an FWC Regional Regatta, but will offer a Wave start and course sailed under FWC rules. FWC Championship Regatta - Gulfport, FL November 17-20, 2022 Membership It’s that time of year to renew your FWC Membership! If you haven’t already, please contact Wendy ([email protected]) to complete your membership. We also have a button on our website that links out to PayPal and you can complete your membership that way too. Regular memberships are $25 and youth memberships are $10. Our referral program is still in place, so be on the lookout for new FWC members and it could save you money on next year’s membership! Social Media Please follow us on Facebook! (https://www.facebook.com/hobiewaveracing) We post updates, pictures, schedule information, and all things FWC. Like and share our posts to spread the news of all the great things we have going on! Thank You As always, thank you all for your continued support of the FWC. Wave sailing wouldn’t be what it is today without your participation and enthusiasm in our sport. See you at one of our Regionals this year! Ben Wells FWC - President
